Design Technology – AQA
GCSE Design Technology
- Coursework: 50%
- Examination: 50% (which includes a maths element of 15%)
- 9 -1 Grading from 2018
KEY STAGE 3:
Is taught in mixed ability groups. The two-year key stage 3 is mainly about skill building which is then applied to design and making projects with a focus on the ‘design process’. Students will be given the opportunity to experience and gain specific skills and knowledge in the four disciplines within Technology (Resistant Materials, Graphics, Textiles and Food and Nutrition).
KEY STAGE 4
This is a three year course, building on the skills and knowledge students have gained at Key Stage Three. In year, 9 students will begin working on the AQA GCSE Design and Technology.
GCSE Design and Technology: (Textiles, Resistant Materials / Graphics)
AQA is a fast moving syllabus that motivates and captures student’s enthusiasm, through the use of modern technology such as the Laser cutter, Sublimation printer and the 3d Printer. Encouraging them to develop their own ideas through imaginative and creative thinking. Having a bright idea and an ability to draw is crucial but it is just the start of the process of making successful products and inventions.
Design and Technology provides opportunities to work with mixed media in Metal, Plastic, Wood, Textiles and Card.
